VICTIMS

Swirling in my Idleness,
Waking up each morning with my Primary Assignment missing,
It's been a couple of weeks we were sent home from school.
They told us we'd be gone for only 7 days.
But I've been quite confused about how 7 days and 7 weeks, 5 days have anything in common at all!
A lot of properties lost,
With no hope of restoring them.
Daodu's mother, the pepper seller gave all the money she got from her esusu to Daodu, for his final year project. Daodu's sister joined the pepper business. She wasn't happy with it at first as she was the prettiest girl on her street and also a very intelligent child. Mama Daodu struggled to pay for her WAEC after which she sat her down the night of her last paper, saying; "My daughter, you have to wait till your brother is done with the university before you think about going further with your education too. Oko mi, abake okinarewa mama re, olori baba re, the fairest of the women of this land! My daughter, please be patient with me."
Arewa cried herself to sleep that night but knew she had no choice but to wait.
All hope was restored when Daodu finally got to his finals! Her brother would be an engineer soon and she could go to the university too! She sold pepper with so much joy.
She practiced how she'd walk when she got to the university already. She had it all planned out!
**o ma şe o**
Now Daodu's laptop was gone.
The laptop was stolen the night he was going to back up his project on his friend's laptop.
His everything was gone!
His side job wouldn't raise enough money for a new one!
Daodu wasn't the only victim.
There are lots of them out there.
Did you hear about Fijabi?
Her hostel was raided too!
If I'm still without a school the next couple of days, I'll tell you Fijabi's story.
Right now I have to get something to eat!

  1. Nice story. I particularly like the concept; it looks fictious and non-fictious at the same time.
It certainly paints a good picture of empathy and concern.
By the way, eat your food on time and tell us about Fijabi; we might be resuming soon.
